Mink Dissection Guidelines
Day 1- 5/8- Monday
In class:
1. Begin Pre-lab and answer questions (ALL students will turn in Pre-lab)
2. Pick up word bank-- these are what you will be locating and will know the function.
3. View two presentations. (1st- Discusses the characteristics of the Mink/ 2nd- Shows images of the dissection and where to locate organs.)
4. Choose Groups
5. View the Slideshow on the "Mink Dissection Review" to familiarize yourself with how to locate the organs of the mink.
6. Read the "Mink Dissection Lab Manual" to familiarize yourself with how the dissection will run (Set- up/Dissection/Clean-up)
Homework:
1. Complete the Pre-lab questions.
2. Converse with your lab partners and decide roles ( Reader 1-2 people/Equipment Manager- 1 person/Dissector 1-2 people)
Day 2- 5/10- Wednesday
In class:
1. You will complete the pre-lab sheet. After deciding groups, you will also locate and identify various outside structures of the mink and know the directional terms (superior, proximal, transverse plane, etc.) Also on this day you will begin the preliminary incisions.
2. Be sure to identify all words on the word bank and to know their function.
3. Be sure to check with me before disposing of your mink. I may keep your mink for the practical final exam.
Homework:
1. View the slideshow again on the "Mink Dissection Review".
2. Be sure to complete your Pre-lab questions.
Day 3- 5/12- Friday
In- Class:
1. On the 3rd day you will begin as soon as you walk in the room. Don’t wait for the bell. Get started. Complete the dissection according to the lab manual and be certain to have located all required terms on the dissection list and know their functions.
